2021年、新築された東京かつしか赤十字母子医療センターのホスピタルアートを私共が担当いたしました。建物のデザインコンセプトは『和レトロ』。 「どこか懐かしい、ふるさとを思い出す、幼少期を思い出す、 をキーワードに下町らしい親しみのあるデザイン」を表すテーマです。各階の内装には病院の基本理念を基に考えられたアクセントカラーが選定されています。
先行する上位計画を前提としてホスピタルアートを計画するにあたり、私たちが心に留めたことは、多様な表現、目に柔らかな色彩、素材、さり気ない存在感と気付き。
建築デザインのテーマである『和レトロ』と表現の親和性に留意しながらアーティストを選定。病院スタッフの皆さまから繰り返しお話しを伺い、それぞれの場所で一時をすごす方々の気持ちを想像しながら、アーティストとともに作品のあり方を考えました。

Hospital Art
In 2021 we oversaw the conception, selections, and installation of the hospital art for the newly built Tokyo Katsushika Red Cross Mother and Child Medical Center. The design concept of the building is “Japanese retro.” This is a theme that represents “a familiar design like downtown with the keywords ”. The accent colors for the interior of each floor were selected based on the basic philosophy of the hospital.
In planning the hospital art to compliment the established urban planning, what we kept in mind was a variety of expressions, colors, and materials that were soft to the eyes that would allow for a casual presence and awareness. We selected the artists while paying attention to the affinity of the expression for “Japanese retro,” the theme of the architectural design. We listened to the hospital staff many times and imagined the feelings of the people who would spend their time at each place in the hospital. Then together with the artists, we considered which artworks would work best in each location.


1F 吹き抜け　アーティスト：中谷ミチコ
　 エントランスの吹き抜けの空間は、いわば病院の「顔」となるスペースです。訪れる人に病院のコンセプトが伝わる作品を依頼しました。少女たちが寄り添うモチーフは、訪れる方に幼い頃の自身を思い起こさせ、お母さんになる女性に寄り添う病院のメッセージを受け取ることができます。本作は石膏で原型を型取りし、その原型の部分を取り除いた後、空になった雌型に樹脂を流し込み、凹凸が反転しているレリーフ彫刻です。絵画のような透明感、柔らかさ、ピュアなイメージを立体化しています。
「この場所に、一時の抱擁のイメージを置く。 私たちは抱きしめる側であり、抱きしめられる側でもある。この群像のどこかに自分や、 あの時のあの人を見つけられるように。それがこの作品を見る人自身でもあるように。」

1F Corridor/ Atrium Artist: Michiko Nakatani
The atrium space at the entrance is, so to speak, the “face” of the hospital. We asked the artist to create an artwork that communicates the concept of the hospital to visitors. The motif of the little girls cuddling reminds visitors of their childhoods, and they can receive the message that the hospital supports women who will become mothers. This work is a relief sculpture in which the convexo-concave is reversed; a mold of a relief clay sculpture is made with plaster, and after the sculpture is removed, the inside of the female mold is painted, and then resin is poured into the mold. The artwork incorporates the transparency, softness, and pure image of a painting into something three-dimensional. Envision an image of a momentary embracement in this place. You might be on the side of hugging and sometimes on the side of being hugged.
”Somewhere in the image of the crowd, you might find yourself and the person you saw at that time. It might be a viewer himself or herself looking at this work.”

平体文枝「ゆらり」「ひらり」「ふわり」

待合(２箇所）　アーティスト：平体文枝 　テーマカラーに合わせた柔らかな色彩と豊かなグラデーションで、光をふんだんに取り入れた病院の窓から、そのまま空へと続くかのような開放感を表現しています。油彩画の絵肌(マチエール) の美しさをお楽しみください。
「小鳥が、そして、子どもたちが 「いちにのさん！」で明るい空（未来）にはばたくように。 訪れる方が 呼吸を整えリラックスして、柔らかくゆったりできるように。」

Waiting Lounge Artist: Hiratai Fumie
With the soft colors and rich gradation that match the theme color, the painting expresses a feeling of openness as if it continues from the hospital window filled with light toward the sky. Please enjoy the beauty of the matière/texture of the oil painting.
”Let the little birds and the children fly in the bright sky (future) with “One two three!” So that visitors can breathe, soften, and relax.”

松原奈々「ものがたりの散歩道」ウオールアート

小児外来/廊下/プレイコーナー　アーティスト：松原奈々
リズミカルに連なる積み木のようなカラーフォルムを流れる一本の道。そこにいるのは、仲間や家族の喜びや優しさが描かれた絵本にインスパイアされた動物や鳥達。彼らはその道を辿りながらやがて大きな輪となり、始まりも終わりもないものがたりの散歩へと出かけるのです。 点在する動物や鳥を見つけては様々な想像を膨らませ、親子の小さな”ものがたり”が育まれる空間となることを願って。

Pediatric outpatient / Corridor / Play area Artist: Nana Matsubara
A path follows a rhythmically connected color form like blocks. There are animals and birds which appear in the picture books that depict the joy and kindness of friends and family. Following the path, they eventually form a big circle and go for a walk. The story begins here. The scattered animals and birds are meant to stimulate the imagination and create a space where “stories” of parents and children will be nurtured.

　和紙造形と木オブジェを組合せたインスタレーション作品です。GCU・ICUへと至る少し長めの廊下は、時に利用する方々が不安な気持ちで行き来する場所。壁に設えたアートの”リズム”と”色”が、然りげなく気持ちを和らげる空間づくりを目指しました。本作品はアーティスト自身の育児体験から生まれた絵本「ねんねの森」を元に新たに制作されたものです。 　協力(木オブジェ制作) : アトリエ倭 http://a-yamato.main.jp
「うまれたての我が子を抱いてゆらゆらとゆれ、小さな背中をぽんぽんと たたいているだけで、私の口からポ ロポロとこぼれおちた子守唄のようなもの。それをもとに、イメージを ひろげて手漉き和紙の絵本を作りました。 どうか健やかに、すくすくと育て。 どうか安らかに、すやすやと眠れ。 そんな願いをこめて。」

GCU hallway Artist: Akiko Nishimura
This is an installation work that combines Japanese paper crafts and wooden objects. The long hallway leading to GCU / ICU is a place where the patients using the facilities sometimes feel uneasy. We aimed to create a space where the “rhythm” and “color” of the art sooth the patients’ feelings. The artist newly made this work based on the picture book “Nen-ne no Mori”, which was created out of her own childcare experience. ”It’s like a lullaby spilling from my mouth just by swaying with my newborn baby and tapping on its small back. Based on that, I developed the image and made a picture book with handmade Japanese paper. Grow up healthy and strong. Sleep peacefully and soundly. With a wish.”

家族ラウンジ　アーティスト：永田哲也
伝統的な和菓子の木型を和紙で型取り、新たな現代アートとして蘇らせている作品です。本作品は、厄除けを祈願する鬼瓦を中心に、四季折々の草花が周囲を囲む組み合わせになっています。 鬼瓦は埼玉県小川町の瓦から型を取り、草花は各地の菓子型を使っています。 菓子型の絵柄は古くから吉祥を願うものが多く、厄除けのほか、子孫繁栄、母性、愛などそれぞれに願いが込められています。病院という非日常空間に、日本の伝統工芸の表現を置くことにより、身近に感じていただけたら幸いです。　協力:富岡鬼瓦工房 https://casys.ever.jp/tomioka/

Family lounge Artist: Tetsuya Nagata
This work, created using Japanese paper and a traditional Japanese confectionary wooden mold, is a new form of contemporary art. It incorporates the moldings of seasonal flowers surrounding the molding of the onigawara, which prays for expelling evil. The molding of the onigawara is made with onigawara tiles in Ogawa Town, Saitama Prefecture, and the flowers are made with confectionery wooden molds from various regions in Japan. In addition to expelling evil, the patterns of the confectionery wooden mold convey a wish for auspiciousness, for the prosperity of descendants, for motherhood, love, etc. We hope that the presence of traditional Japanese crafts here will help visitors to feel more comfortable in the unfamiliar hospital setting. 日本伝統文化の「折り紙」をテーマとした手漉き和紙作品。折り紙の中でも最もポピュラーな鶴、兜、やっこさん、風船の折り図を平面構成しました。おると何の形になるのか想像するのも楽しいですね。

2F 3F Corridor Day Corner Artist: Akiko Nishimura
Here we placed art incorporating handmade Japanese paper/washi with the theme of “origami/paper folding,” a traditional Japanese culture. With her special technique for making Japanese paper, the artist created flat compositions with the patterns of the most popular origami/paper folding of cranes, helmets, yakko-san/male figures, and balloons. It would be fun to imagine what they will look like when they are folded.

サロン（２箇所）アーティスト：佐伯和子
染色した糸(おもに絹)を芯材に巻きつけたオブジェです。かつては日本の近代化の大きな力になった絹。 絹糸には「きびそ」と呼ばれる繭の外側の硬い部分を使用してます。作品は草木の茂る風景を抽象的にイメージしています。フロアのテーマカラーに合わせたアースカラーや日本の伝統色を選び、様々な世代に、色の重なりと組み合わせを楽しんでいただける空間にしました。

Salon Artist: Kazuko Saeki
A work of dyed threads (mainly silk) coils around a core material. Historically, silk was once a major factor in Japan’s modernization. The hard part of silk thread, the outside of the cocoon called “Kibiso,” is employed in this work, which abstractly depicts an image of a landscape full of vegetation. The artist chose earth tones and traditional Japanese colors that match the theme color of the floor/interior, thereby creating a space where the overlap and combination of colors can be enjoyed by people of various generations.

特別個室前　アーティスト：笠井正博
色の持つ力が人に与える効果を意識した作品を選びました。 日本画の墨の濃淡による遠近法を取り入れ、シルクスクリーンによる色のグラデーションでブナの森 を表現しています。（ブナの森は「豊かな生態系といのちを育む母なる森」と言われています。）森は地球上で最も完成された形であり、共存して美しく生きるということをテーマにした作品です。

In front of a special private room Artist: Masahiro Kasai
We chose this work paying attention to the effect that the power of color has on people. Incorporating the shades of ink traditionally used in Japanese painting, the work represents a beech forest with color gradations created by silk screen. (The beech forest is said to be a “mother forest that nurtures a rich ecosystem and life.”) Forests are a perfect form of ecosystem on the earth, so this work conveys the theme of coexistence and life.

　日々忙しいスタッフの方々が少しでもリラックスできるように、柔らかな色彩の可愛らしい木版画作品を配置しました。 　日本の伝統的な表現技法の一つとして今も多くの人に親しまれている木版画を、モダンでユニークな画面構成にした印象的な抽象作品です。

Staff lounge Artist: Katsuyo Takezaki
So that the busy staff can relax as much as possible, we have placed cute woodblock prints in soft colors here. Woodblock prints are still popular and familiar to many people as one of the traditional Japanese mediums for expression. These impressive abstract works, arranged on a horizontal plane, look modern and unique.

空に近い最上階の部屋に注ぐ、穏やかで澄んだ光をイメージしたガラスアート。 電気炉焼成を繰り返し制作したキルンワークによる作品です。 それぞれのガラスタイルは、降り注ぐ光、窓外の景色、祈りを表現しています。

Morgue Artist: Rei Chikaoka
Glass art forms an image of calm and clear light pouring into the room on the top floor near the sky. This work was fired in the kiln many times. Each glass tile represents the light shining down, the scenery outside the window, and prayer.
